Women’s organisations are getting ready to take up a campaign for making the city safe for women.
The ‘Safe City’ campaign was being taken up, as the city was increasingly becoming a place where women felt insecure and vulnerable, affecting their mobility, representatives of various women’s organisations said.
Several women’s organisations met in the city on Wednesday to discuss the problems faced by women on city streets and to take up a campaign to bring the issue before the authorities.
The meeting was organised by Sakhi Women’s Resource Centre, which has mooted the campaign. Making the city safe for women will be the focus of this year’s campaign.
Women who took part in the meeting said several areas in the city, particularly Thampanoor and East Fort, and some roads were the haunt of anti-social elements and exhibitionists even during the day.
They wanted the police to note that exhibitionism was a major issue in the city, especially in certain deserted roads like the Women’s College lane at Vazhuthacaud, the Uppidammoodu-Chettikulangara road, near the Model School, and some by-lanes at Statue.
Thampanoor bus stand was one of the most ‘unsafe’ places for women travelling alone. In sharp contrast, the railway station opposite the bus stand was a safer place, as there were waiting room facilities, close circuit television and monitoring by the Railway Protection Force.
A dedicated helpline for women should be set up by the police with a three-digit number that can be easily remembered and police monitoring at East Fort and Thampanoor through close circuit television should be thought about, it was suggested. Though women police were posted at certain bus stops, their presence was often not visible, it was felt.
COMMENT:
We at ExhibitionistReview commend the various organisations for campaigning to make the city “safe for women”. Apparently exhibitionism is a “major issue” and the women felt “insecure and vulnerable”.
Yes, indeed!
We know the feeling all too well. Every time a woman flashes her tits or panties we men also feel, well…aroused (though perhaps not to anger)!
Yes, indeed. It is time to rid the streets of exhibitionists and we feel sure that these women, in their new-found zeal, will also target those women who wear low-cut tops, short dresses and thong panties! Who knows what such sights may incite men to?
