I can sympathise. A man in a car flashed me and my friend when we were 11. Fucking pervert.
I think men get away with this behaviour because it isn’t treated as sexual harrassment – if there are other people around, it would be a lot easier to react in such a way that they would be made aware of this simple fact. It’s only natural to be scared of men who do this, since if they are prepared to transgress this one social norm, might not they be prepaerd to cross another line and actually touch you in some way inappropriately? However, I can’t help but notice that no one seems to have sugegsted the most simple response: scream. If people hear a person screaming, they look, they move towards them, they tend to consider helping them. So drawing atetntion to the sick fucker flashing you might be the best idea – it would certainly unnerve them and maybe make them wonder about doing it again, when they might well be caught.
Also, report the event. Perhaps the police may not take it seriously, but it is a criminal offence. Report it and at least that way there will be an awareness of it happening once, and perhaps if the pervert repeats their flashing in a similar area, they might be caught.
